Oxygen as a basis for cell regeneration!

The cells of the epidermis are most active in the deeper layers of the germinative basal lamina. It is here that cell division and growth of surface skin takes place, as well as important immunological processes, and the formation of skin colouring melanin within the melanocytes. These deep epidermal cell layers require a large amount of energy to fulfil their function.

Cells derive energy from nutrients such as glucose, amino acids and fatty acids in three stages. Stages 1 and 2, in the absence of oxygen, produce only a small amount of ATP anaerobically. In stage 3, however, the reduction of oxygen forms an important component of ATP synthesis. ATP formed in the mitochondria of a cell is a cell's energy reservoir.

Young skin is fresh and vital, and does not suffer from a lack of energy, because the epidermis is adequately supplied with oxygen and nutrients through the blood vessels of the dermis. Older skin, on the other hand, is poorly supplied with blood because the micro-capillaries of the dermis have degenerated and are no longer able to supply sufficient oxygen and nutrients to the germinative layer of the epidermis. As a result, cell division slows down significantly, and the skin becomes thinner, dry and wrinkled. Age spots appear because the melanocytes no longer have sufficient energy to distribute melanin evenly. The lack of oxygen and nutrients in the germinative layer of mature skin is a decisive cause for its decreasing tone, the formation of lines, and uneven skin pigmentation.

Our genetic make-up, for the most part, determines the composition of our skin (what colour it is, whether it ages early or late, is prone to acne problems or whether it is evenly pigmented or not) However, environmental influences and our lifestyle also play an important part. With Nora Bode cosmetic formulations and the OXYjet system, it is no longer necessary to resign oneself to unpleasant changes to one's skin. Nutrients in the form of special active ingredients and oxygen are supplied to the basal layer of the epidermis via pressure pulse so that cells can produce energy for division and growth, and for normal functioning of the melanocytes. The result is smooth, wrinkle-free, youthful and blemish-free skin!

Mitochondria - the cells power source Mitochondria "the cell's power source". Without oxygen the formation of the energy reservoir ATP is not possible.
